Lucia with bottle

2023. Oil on stretched canvas. 14 x 18 inches (36 X 46 cm)

"Buying water can be an overwhelming exercise. Presented to us in dizzying amounts of mass-produced packaging, companies try to diversify the humble H2O via all manner of strategies. One I have seen more commonly in recent years, in both the single-use and reusable markets, is the water bottle as a status symbol. In my piece, I present the water bottle in a traditional atelier-style painting. This indicates its luxury status; however, its pop art style reminds us that ultimately, this is a common item. So when we pause to think about it, having so much drinkable water available (let alone the contemporary fancy varieties) is an absolute privilege."
