The seeker
2026. Oil and plastic on wooden board. 25.5 x 20 cm.
“Venus” figurines are small carved sculptures of women from the Palaeolithic period, discovered across Eurasia and parts of Siberia. They are among the earliest known works of prehistoric art, and there are theories that they symbolise fertility, motherhood, or a goddess figure. There is also another theory that they are very early self portraits.
This is a self portrait too, for 2026. Like many of us, my 40s have started with a search for meaning. I have been reflecting on the practices and rituals that currently ground me in the world in relation to the universe. Rituals that are inherited, those who have formed a core part of my life for years, and new traditions that I am currently learning. I predict that this will be a lifelong search as I strive to get a better understanding of the divine.
