VANITAS
A momento mori for the chronically online.
2024. Oil on stretched canvas, 48.5 x 29.5cm (approx 19 x 12 inches)
Once vanitas paintings reminded viewers that beauty fades, riches rot, and all flesh turns to dust. This work revives that haunted tradition — but chronically online.
Among the flowers and shells lie the relics of our own time: a single use plastic bottle, the glowing letters of social media slang. It’s a digital altar to our mortal vanity — where the feed never dies, but we do.
The skull and rosary whisper through the noise: remember you are mortal, even when you’re trending.
