'Time is the real currency' - Mid Street Lab Brighton

I'm delighted to be part of Time is the Real Currency at MidStreetLab gallery in Brighton. This thought-provoking group exhibition brings together some of Brighton’s most exciting emerging artists. Presented as part of Brighton Fringe and Artists Open House, the show is more than a collection of artworks—it’s a powerful reflection on the value of time, creativity, and community.

‘BORED: Renoir Redux' was selected by the judges for inclusion in the exhibition. Like many people, I’ve become hyper-aware of how often I reach for my phone. This painting reimagines a Renoir portrait where the model simply appears bored—but in my version, my friend Lucia holds a phone. I wanted to explore that moment of disengagement and how we now seem to avoid boredom at all costs.

I suspect there’s a kind of virtue in boredom—a necessary pause that allows the mind to wander, process, and generate new ideas. In a way, boredom buys us mental space. Maybe it’s something we should deliberately make time for.

The exhibition runs from April 19 – May 30 at Mid Street Lab, 80 St George’s Road, BN2 1EF, Kemptown. More info: midstreetlab.com
